And they stay like this until the next reboot. If some drives are failed after a reboot (I noticed this is the critical time), if I hot-replug them fast enough before the controller starts searching for volumes then I have about 95% chances those will be picked up again. I do not have breakout cables to test, and these are consumer SSDs, meant for workstations, but I noticed something interesting, and I think it is related to what you mentioned about the "lack of certain commands".
